Spurs back in Alamo City as they host Pistons

Feb 26, 2014 - 3:20 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs will play their first home game since Feb. 1 on Wednesday night when they host the Detroit Pistons at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs were out on their annual Rodeo road trip, which spanned nine games and 18 days, including the All-Star break. San Antonio went 6-3 on the sojourn, but dropped the last one on the trip.

The Spurs were clobbered by the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, 106-85.

Danny Green netted 15 points for San Antonio, which was just 2-of-21 from beyond the arc and shot 34.9 percent (29-of-83) from the floor. Tim Duncan finished with 13, followed by 11 from Corey Joseph and 10 apiece out of Marco Belinelli and Matt Bonner.

The Spurs played chunks of the trip without key components, especially Tony Parker, who remains out with a myriad of ailments. Duncan missed time and Kawhi Leonard has been sidelined with a broken right ring finger.

All things considered, the Spurs were very pleased with how the trip went.

"Great trip, 6-3 on that trip under the circumstances with all the guys out, I thought they were great," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Leonard is expected back on Wednesday.

"He will probably play," Popovich said.

The Spurs will host the Charlotte Bobcats and Dallas Mavericks on this stay.

The Pistons hit the road for two Texas tilts, heading to play the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

Detroit hits the road losers of two straight and five of the last six. The Pistons have lost six in a row on the road.

On Monday, the Pistons fell to the Golden State Warriors at The Palace of Auburn Hills, 104-96.

Greg Monroe had 23 points and eight boards for the Pistons, while Josh Smith and Kyle Singler each tallied 18 points, with the former also pulling down 11 rebounds.

Andre Drummond and Brandon Jennings both had 11 points, while Jennings handed out 10 assists.

Now, the Pistons hit the road against two playoff-bound teams in the Western Conference.

"I think our next couple road games are going to be tough against San Antonio and Houston," said Singler. "Those are two very good teams so we're going to have to play well and continue our success on the road like we had in the beginning of the year. It's going to be tough but we can do it for sure."

The Pistons beat the Spurs in Detroit on Feb. 10 and have taken two of the last three meetings. San Antonio has won three in a row as the host in this series.
