Randolph guides Grizzlies over Cavs

Mar 2, 2014 - 7:03 AM Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach Randolph deposited a 23-point, 14- rebound double-double and the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, 110-96, for the fifth straight time at FedEx Forum.

Marc Gasol and Mike Conley each tallied 22 points, with the former adding eight rebounds and six assists in the win. Tony Allen chipped in with 16 points off the bench for the Grizzlies.

"It was effort, energy and focus," Grizzlies coach David Joerger said of the second half. "(Cleveland) was drilling us in the pick-and-roll. We weren't playing hard enough."

Kyrie Irving poured in a game-high 28 points for Cleveland following his first career triple-double on Friday. Tristan Thompson finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, Spencer Hawes had 13 points, and Luol Deng added 11 for the Cavs, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.

Cleveland was once again without a plethora of its players on Saturday, with Anderson Varejao (back) missing his 10th consecutive game, while Dion Waiters (knee) missed his seventh straight and C.J. Miles (ankle) sat out for the sixth straight tilt.

"Guys are going to make runs. They made their run," said Irving. "They had a hit first mentality going into that second half."

Cleveland jumped all over the hosts in the first two quarters, leading 30-22 after one quarter of play and 65-54 at the half.

Memphis outscored the Cavs 33-15 in the third quarter to take an 87-80 lead into the final frame.

With Memphis trailing by 10 early in the third, Randolph scored the first two baskets during a 17-0 run.

Cleveland went 6:46 without a point as the Grizzlies regained an advantage they didn't have since the opening moments of the first quarter.

Irving reeled off five straight points to cut the deficit to one, 95-94, with just over four minutes left, but nine straight from the Grizzlies made it a 10-point spread, all but sealing the outcome.

Randolph followed the Irving flurry with a jumper before Conley nailed a 3 from the wing to begin the run for Memphis.
