Spurs head to the Q to face the Cavs

Mar 4, 2014 - 2:41 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs hit the road armed with a three- game winning streak Tuesday night when they visit the Q to face the Cleveland Cavaliers.

San Antonio swept a three-game homestand with victories over the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Bobcats and Dallas Mavericks. The Spurs were just out on a nine-game Rodeo road trip where they went 6-3, but lost the last time out to the Phoenix Suns.

That was the Spurs' last setback and their most recent win came thanks to the return of a familiar face.

All-Star guard Tony Parker returned from a six-game absence with a variety of injuries and poured in 22 points to lead the Spurs to a 112-106 win over the Mavericks.

"He looked fresh and didn't loose any rhythm it looked like. He played very well. He played a great floor game and delivered offensively as well," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Tim Duncan scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Kawhi Leonard added 16 points and Manu Ginobili had 15 points and seven assists for the Spurs, winners in six of their last seven.

Boris Diaw managed 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while Tiago Splitter scored 11.

The Cavs had a two-game winning streak halted on Saturday night when they got beat pretty good by the Memphis Grizzlies in Memphis, 110-96.

Kyrie Irving poured in a game-high 28 points for Cleveland following his first career triple-double on Friday. Tristan Thompson finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, Spencer Hawes had 13 points, and Luol Deng added 11 for the Cavs.

Cleveland was once again without a plethora of its players on Saturday, with Anderson Varejao (back) missing his 10th consecutive game, while Dion Waiters (knee) missed his seventh straight and C.J. Miles (ankle) sat out for the sixth straight tilt.

Waiters is expected back on Tuesday.

The Cavs had an 11-point halftime lead, but got blown out in the third quarter to the tune of 33-15. The final frame went Memphis' way as well, but only by a 23-16 margin.

"Guys are going to make runs. They made their run," said Irving. "They had a hit first mentality going into that second half."

The Spurs have won eight straight against the Cavs, including a 30-point blowout in San Antonio on Nov. 23. The Spurs have also won three in a row at Quicken Loans Arena.
