Nets take winning streak to New Orleans
Mar 24, 2014 - 2:05 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Brooklyn Nets have won four straight and will continue a southern swing Monday night when they visit the Smoothie King Center to face the New Orleans Pelicans. The Nets have won seven of their last eight and 11 of their previous 13. This surge has pushed Brooklyn within 1 1/2 of the Toronto Raptors for the Atlantic Division lead and just a game behind the Chicago Bulls for the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.
On Sunday night, the Nets started this three-game swing with a 107-104 overtime victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
Joe Johnson netted 22 points to help Brooklyn to victory. He tied the game in regulation, then the Nets used a 7-0 run in overtime to grab the win in their fourth straight with over 100 points.
"We love giving the ball to Joe. Joe loves having the ball. Joe has been doing that for us all season. That's why he's an All-Star and one of the best at what he does," said Nets head coach Jason Kidd.
Marcus Thornton scored 20 and had seven rebounds off the bench for the Nets. Deron Williams and Paul Pierce added 15 points apiece and Shaun Livingston contributed 12 points and seven boards.
Kevin Garnett is still out for Brooklyn with a back issue. He didn't travel with the team.
The Nets will visit the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday to complete the trip.
The Pelicans have won two straight and three of their last four. Their most recent victory was one of their best of the season, a 105-95 decision Saturday over the Miami Heat at home.
"To get this win against the defending champs you feel really good about what you are trying to do as a coaching staff. I am proud of our guys to be able to do that on a back-to-back," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams.
The Pelicans beat the Hawks in Atlanta on Friday night.
Anthony Davis poured in a game-high 30 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead New Orleans.
Tyreke Evans added 16 points and eight assists, Al-Farouq Aminu scored 12 and Luke Babbitt finished with 11 points for the Pelicans.
The Pelicans still have the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz on this current residency.
The Nets have won three in a row against the Pelicans, including a 12-point victory in Brooklyn on Feb. 9. The Nets are 1-4 in their last five in the Big Easy.
