Spurs roll into Mile High City
Mar 28, 2014 - 2:03 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs will take their 15-game winning streak into Denver Friday night to complete a home-and-home series with the Nuggets. The Spurs, whose 15-game streak is the longest in the NBA this season, matched the second-best in franchise history. They tied a 15-game run from March 14 - April 9, 1995, but the Spurs' longest is a 17-game winning streak back in the 1995-96 season.
Against the Nuggets in San Antonio on Wednesday, the Spurs had five players in double figures, led by one of their future Hall of Famers.
Tim Duncan tallied 29 points, 13 rebounds and five assists to help the Spurs. He shot 12-for-20 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line to pace San Antonio, which committed 21 turnovers.
The Spurs were ahead by 20 at the half, but allowed the Nuggets back into the contest.
"In the second half it kind of changed. I think we were a little too unselfish. We moved the ball too much, which caused some turnovers that turned into points," Duncan said.
Danny Green hit 5-of-9 from distance en route to 16 points, while Tony Parker, Tiago Splitter and Manu Ginobili all donated 10 points as the Spurs extended their winning streak.
Green underwent an MRI on Thursday which revealed right foot inflammation. Green will make the trip with the team to Denver and is questionable for Friday's game.
The Spurs are the only team to clinch a playoff spot in the Western Conference and lead the race for homecourt advantage in the conference by three games over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Aaron Brooks paced Denver with 25 points and eight assists off the bench. Kenneth Faried and Timofey Mozgov each posted double-doubles, with Faried totaling 24 points and 10 rebounds while Mozgov finished with 14 points and 11 boards.
"Ten more games. Training camp started for us now. It's about playing hard and developing chemistry like the Spurs," said Brooks.
The Nuggets have lost two straight and three of their last four, but they have won five straight at the Pepsi Center.
Injuries have certainly plagued the Nuggets this season as key contributors Danilo Gallinari, JaVale McGee, Nate Robinson and now J.J. Hickson are all sidelined for the season.
The Spurs beat the Nuggets on Nov. 5 in the Mile High City and have taken five of the last eight meetings there.
