High-scoring Clippers pay a visit to Suns

Apr 2, 2014 - 2:22 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers have won three straight and will close out a road trip Wednesday night when they visit US Airways Center to take on the Phoenix Suns.

LA has already clinched a playoff spot and is 2 1/2 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the second seed in the Western Conference.

On Monday, the Clippers bested the Minnesota Timberwolves, 114-104.

Without Blake Griffin, whose streak of consecutive games played was broken at 105 thanks to a back issue, and Jamal Crawford, who sat with a sore left Achilles tendon, the Clippers completed the second best month in franchise history. Los Angeles went 13-2 in March and the only better month in team history was the 16-0 month of December last season.

DeAndre Jordan pulled down 24 rebounds to go along with 11 points and the Clippers defeated the Timberwolves. Darren Collison had 28 points and seven assists, while Chris Paul added 22 points, nine helpers and three steals for the Clippers.

"It's funny," Paul said, "before we ran out on the court tonight I was over there in the huddle I said, 'Fellas let's be who we are. We got who we got. Keep the train moving.'"

Matt Barnes (19) and Jared Dudley (16) also scored in double figures. The Clippers are 17-0 this season when all five starters crack the 10-point plateau.

The Clippers will play five in a row at home before finishing the season in Portland against the Trail Blazers.

The Suns had a six-game winning streak halted on Sunday with a 115-99 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

Gerald Green scored 22 points off the bench and Markieff Morris provided 16 points and 12 rebounds for Phoenix. Goran Dragic added 17, followed by 15 from Marcus Morris and 10 out of Eric Bledsoe.

"We didn't have the energy that we usually have. Tonight we weren't focused in," Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek said.

The Lakers shot 53 percent from the field and the Suns were held under 39 percent.

The Suns are tied for seventh with the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference, just a half-game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks. The two squads are two games behind the Golden State Warriors, who reside in sixth.

The Clippers have won two of three meetings this season with Phoenix, including one in the desert. The Suns have taken 11 of the last 13 matchups as the host in this series.
