Warriors play host to T'Wolves

Apr 14, 2014 - 2:30 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors are still trying to solidify their best playoff positioning and look to hold on to the sixth seed Monday night when they welcome the Minnesota Timberwolves to Oracle Arena.

The Warriors are just a half-game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks for the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Golden State is only a game in front of the Memphis Grizzlies, who currently occupy the eighth spot.

One more victory would give Golden State the sixth spot. The Warriors visit the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.

Golden State lost out on its chance for the fifth seed in the Western Conference on Sunday night in a spectacular, playoff-like game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors fell 119-117 in overtime at the Moda Center.

Stephen Curry exploded for 47 points on 16-of-29 shooting and made seven of Golden State's 17 3-pointers. He hit Draymond Green for the game-tying 3- pointer at the end of regulation, then tried the same at the end of overtime, but Andre Iguodala missed.

"It was obviously high intensity, you know, guys making plays," said Curry. "The back and forth was just intense and we found a way to keep fighting. This is kind of what you expect of two playoff teams preparing for that next step and I think from start to finish it definitely had that feel."

Klay Thompson added 25 points and Iguodala finished with 15 points.

The Timberwolves are going to miss the postseason and will try to secure their first .500 season since the 2004-05 campaign.

Minnesota had a chance to get that 41st win of the season on Sunday, but fell to the Sacramento Kings, 106-103.

Kevin Love tallied 43 points and 11 boards, while Gorgui Dieng supplied 21 points and 14 rebounds for Minnesota, which has alternated wins and losses over its last six tilts.

"Our defense just wasn't good enough in the second half," Love said.

The Wolves held an 82-81 edge early in the fourth before a 15-4 Kings run helped them seize control of the contest.

Luc Mbah a Moute finished with 12 points and Corey Brewer followed up his amazing 51-point performance on Friday with 10 points on 2-for-8 shooting from the field.

The Warriors and Wolves have split two matchups this season with the visitor winning each time. Minnesota's win at Oracle Arena on Jan. 24 snapped a seven- game series losing streak.
