Nets close out homestand with Magic

Nov 9, 2014 - 2:37 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Before the Brooklyn Nets head west, they'll wrap up a four-game homestand Sunday versus the upstart Orlando Magic.

The Nets are scheduled to visit Phoenix, Golden State and Portland, and have a 2-1 record on this stay following a 110-99 win over the rival New York Knicks Friday night at Barclays Center.

Deron Williams scored a season-high 29 points, made 10-of-15 shots and handed out six assists. Brook Lopez netted 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Joe Johnson and Mirza Teletovic posted 18 apiece for Brooklyn, which made 51.4 percent from the field and won for the third time in four tries.

Johnson and Teletovic each buried four 3-pointers and the Nets sank 14 of their 24 attempts from downtown (58.3 percent).

"The shooting was spectacular," Nets coach Lionel Hollins said.

Orlando has won back-to-back games following an 0-4 start and will play three in a row on the road against Brooklyn, Toronto and New York.

In the midst of playing five of six away from home, the Magic needed a last- second shot to defeat Philadelphia and overtime in Friday's 112-103 victory versus Minnesota. Nikola Vucevic made two free throws with 11.9 seconds left to force overtime and the Magic scored 18 of the 27 points in OT.

Vucevic finished with 14 points and nine rebounds before fouling out.

Rookie Aaron Gordon showed why he was a first-round draft pick and scored 17 points with six boards off the bench. Gordon had six points in OT and nailed a 3-pointer with less than two minutes to go in the extra frame.

"Basketball is less fun to me if I'm not playing all out, all the time," Gordon said. "It's just what I do. I really like that aspect."

Rookie Elfrid Payton had 15 points and Evan Fournier led Orlando with 20. Tobias Harris chipped in 17 points and 16 rebounds for Orlando, which shot 50.5 percent from the floor and outrebounded Minnesota, 52-38.

The Magic, though, committed 21 turnovers and are averaging 18.0 miscues a game. They averaged 14.9 turnovers a game in 2013-14.

Orlando hasn't won three in a row since last Feb. 5-9 and split four meetings with Brooklyn last season. The Magic are winless in their four trips to Brooklyn and lead the all-time series with the Nets, 55-41.
