Warriors seek winning formula versus Nets

Nov 13, 2014 - 2:44 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - A five-game winning streak to start the season is now a two-game slide for the Golden State Warriors, as they try to bounce back Thursday versus the Brooklyn Nets at Oracle Arena.

The Warriors had the unbeaten start come to an end in a loss at Phoenix on Sunday, then they dropped a 113-100 decision to San Antonio Tuesday in the opener of a three-game homestand.

Tony Parker led the defending champion Spurs with 28 points, while Klay Thompson paced Golden State with 29 on 9-of-17 shooting. Harrison Barnes scored a season-best 22 points and Stephen Curry ended with 16, six rebounds and five assists for the Warriors, who shot a superb 54.3 percent and turned the ball over 20 times.

San Antonio scored 30-plus points in both the third and fourth quarters.

There were nine lead changes and 12 ties.

Golden State managed just one offensive rebound, a new franchise low.

"Our effort was all right tonight, but we just couldn't make plays to close the gap when we had the opportunity," said Curry, who had scored 20 or more points in the first six games. "They made a lot of big plays and some clutch shots."

Curry, who is second in the NBA with 26.0 ppg, had his 20-point streak (11 games) and 3-point streak (75 games) come to a halt. He went 0-for-7 from 3- point range.

Golden State, which will host Charlotte on Saturday, is seventh in the NBA with 104.4 points per game and leads the league in field-goal percentage at .497.

Brooklyn is second in field-goal percentage (.486) and fifth with 104.6 ppg.

The Nets opened a three-game western trek with Wednesday's 112-104 loss to the Suns, as Joe Johnson led six players in double digits with 21 points. Brook Lopez and Mirza Teletovic had 16 points apiece and both Deron Williams and Bojan Bogdanovic added 14.

Kevin Garnett recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds for Brooklyn, which led by as many as 19 in the first half and had 19 turnovers for 20 Phoenix points. The Suns had a 34-20 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

"We lost our aggressiveness," said Nets head coach Lionel Hollins. "They started pressuring more and taking the ball out of the point guard's hands and we just made too many turnovers."

Brooklyn will close out the sojourn Saturday at Portland, and had won two straight and four of five games.

The Nets and Warriors split two meetings last season with the home team prevailing each time. The Nets have lost eight of nine games in Oakland.
