Sixers close road trip against Clippers

Jan 3, 2015 - 2:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers have won two straight and will try to extend the winning streak on Saturday night when the Philadelphia 76ers visit the Staples Center.

Saturday is game five of a nine-game homestand and the Clippers are 3-1 thus far with wins over the Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz and New York Knicks. Their lone loss during this stay came at the hands of the Toronto Raptors.

On Wednesday, the Clippers demolished the Knicks, 99-78.

J.J. Redick made four 3-pointers en route to 20 points to lead LA.

"My preparation before the game gets me ready," said Redick. "When I come into the game with energy I am going to benefit from it."

DeAndre Jordan added 14 points, 12 rebounds and two steals for the Clippers, who went 15-of-34 from beyond the arc. Blake Griffin and Jamal Crawford each scored 13 points, with Griffin also dishing out 11 assists. Crawford made two 3-pointers to pass Peja Stojakovic for ninth on the NBA's career list.

Los Angeles put the game out of reach with a 13-0 run to start the second half. The Clippers outscored New York by a 24-18 margin in the third stanza to extend their lead to 74-58.

The Sixers have lost four straight, all on this current road trip. They actually opened the sojourn with wins in Florida over the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat, but things turned once the 76ers headed west.

Philly fell to the Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns. The most recent setback came Friday night against the Suns, 112-96.

Tony Wroten fell three points shy of his career high with 28 off the bench for Philadelphia. Michael Carter-Williams posted 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

"I was very happy with our effort," said Sixers coach Brett Brown. "Never once did we feel sorry for ourselves or hang our head. We competed for the whole 48 minutes."

Wroten had 15 of Philadelphia's 30 second-quarter points. He capped the second with a three-point play with 1.4 seconds left, as the Sixers overcame a 10- point deficit midway through the period to take a 59-57 lead into halftime.

Phoenix started the second half strong, but the Sixers answered. The Suns scored the final four points of the third and first four of the fourth to regain control of the game.

Henry Sims scored 16 off the bench, followed by 12 from Luc Mbah a Moute, who returned from a two-game absence with a strained calf. Robert Covington managed 10 in the defeat.

The Clippers have won five straight against the 76ers, although the two teams have split the last six meetings in Los Angeles.
