Spurs aim to add to Wolves' misery

Jan 10, 2015 - 3:13 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Timberwolves could be staring down 15 consecutive losses with the San Antonio Spurs ready to invade Target Center Saturday night.

The Timberwolves suffered their 14th loss in a row Friday night in a 98-84 decision against the Milwaukee Bucks. Rookie Andrew Wiggins scored 20 points and both Thaddeus Young and Shabazz Muhammad netted 12.

Wiggins has scored 20-plus points in each of the previous six games and is averaging 22.2 ppg in that span.

"It's a good thing for me, keeping my confidence up high. But I'd trade (those) for a win any day," Wiggins said.

Minnesota made 40.5 percent for the game and committed 20 turnovers, leading to 28 Milwaukee points. The Bucks had 23 turnovers and managed to prevail.

Wolves guard Mo Williams didn't play due to a sprained ankle he sustained in Wednesday's loss against Phoenix.

The T-wolves haven't won since Dec. 10 at home against the Portland Trail Blazers and are winless in seven straight as the host. They have a 3-15 record at Target Center this season and are 1-28 when allowing 100 or more points.

Minnesota is last in opponents' scoring at 108.3 ppg.

After hosting the Spurs, Minnesota will start a four-game road trip Tuesday against Indiana, Phoenix, Denver and Charlotte.

San Antonio will play three in a row on the road against Minnesota, Washington and Charlotte, and is winless in the past four games outside the Alamo City.

The Spurs went 3-1 on a recent homestand, which was capped with Friday's 100-95 triumph over the Phoenix Suns. Danny Green buried 4-of-7 3-pointers en route to 20 points and Patty Mills added 15. Tim Duncan scored 12 points and Tiago Splitter grabbed 14 rebounds for the Spurs, who struggled for 10 points in the third quarter before scoring 41 in the fourth.

The defending champions blew a double-digit lead before rallying back.

"It's tough after playing so well in the first half," Duncan said. "And then we give it up in that third quarter and you get the feeling, 'Here we go again.' We've had some really tough ones, some really close ones, where one or two possessions changes the entire game. Good to grab this one tonight and trying to get our ship back on the right path."

Spurs guard Manu Ginobili left the game late in the first half with back spasms and could miss Saturday's game. He scored four points. Tony Parker had seven points and five of the team's 15 turnovers in 22 minutes.

San Antonio is 9-9 as the visitor and 2-0 against Minnesota this season. The two teams will meet again March 15 in the Alamo City. The Spurs have won 23 of the last 28 meetings in this series.
