Blazers, Spurs tangle in San Antonio

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Trail Blazers came up short in an effort to keep their winning streak intact and will begin a short road trip Friday against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Trail Blazers will also visit the Memphis Grizzlies and are 12-5 outside the Rose City this season.

Portland was aiming for five straight wins, but suffered a 100-94 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night. LaMarcus Aldridge paced the Blazers with 37 points and 12 rebounds, while Chris Kaman had 15 points with 11 rebounds.

Damian Lillard scored 12 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

"They trapped me, blitzed every pick-and-roll. When I didn't have the ball they were all over me," said Lillard, who scored 34 points in a recent win over the Lakers.

Portland is still 13-3 in its last 16 games and has won two straight and five of its last six road games. It is 23-3 when scoring 100-plus points and 19-2 in games decided by 10 or more points.

The Spurs are back in the Alamo City for two games versus Portland and Utah, and have a 13-6 record at the AT&T Center.

San Antonio went 2-1 on a recent trip, which culminated with Wednesday's 98-93 triumph over the Charlotte Hornets.

Manu Ginobili showed no signs of a back issue and scored 27 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Tim Duncan posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Danny Green scored 18 points for the Spurs, who rebounded from Tuesday's loss at Washington.

"Back-to-backs are always very satisfying wins," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. "We've had an opportunity to win some other games, and we've blown them. Tonight, we came through."

In a bit of encouraging news for the Spurs, reigning NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard is listed as probable for Friday's game. He missed the last 15 games with a hand injury and the Spurs went 7-8 during that stretch.

The Spurs have won five of their last seven games, but are 0-2 against the Trail Blazers this season. The two Western Conference powers will collide Feb. 25 in Rip City.

Portland needed triple overtime to defeat San Antonio, 129-119, on Dec. 19 and has won three of the past four games in this series.
