Mavs hobble into matchup with Jazz

Feb 11, 2015 - 3:09 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Mavericks will be without some key personnel Wednesday night when they host the Utah Jazz at American Airlines Center.

Rajon Rondo is sidelined indefinitely with facial fractures, but starting guard Monta Ellis and starting center Tyson Chandler are both listed as questionable for Wednesday.

Ellis has a left hip injury and Chandler hurt his left ankle. Both left in the first quarter of Monday's 115-98 home loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday.

"Obviously it hurt losing two of our main guys," said forward Chandler Parsons. "We shot ourselves in the foot a lot with silly turnovers and bad shots."

Charlie Villanueva picked up some of the slack with a season-high 26 points off the bench. Dirk Nowitzki chipped in 12 points, followed by 16 and 12 rebounds from Parsons. J.J. Barea rounded out the double-figure scorers for Dallas with 15.

Without Chandler, the Clippers' DeAndre Jordan exploded. He finished with 22 points and 27 rebounds as the Clips shot 44.6 percent from the field as opposed to 40.6 percent from the Mavs.

Dallas, which had a two-game winning streak come to an end, committed 12 turnovers, which the Clippers translated in 17 points, but LA only had six miscues on the night.

The Jazz are in the midst of a two-game winning streak with a victory over the Sacramento Kings in Salt Lake City on Saturday and a 100-96 road win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.

Against New Orleans, Gordon Hayward had 32 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to lead the Jazz. It was Hayward's second straight 30-point game and seventh of the season.

"You've got to step up and be able to make some big-time shots and tonight some of those went down," Hayward said.

Derrick Favors posted 18 points and seven boards and Enes Kanter added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz, who had dropped five of their last seven games coming in.

Steve Novak shot 4-for-5 from long range to chip in 12 points for a Jazz team that prevailed with Anthony Davis out of the lineup for the Pelicans. New Orleans still made 59 percent from 3-point range. Utah shot a respectable 43 percent from distance.

The Mavericks have won both meetings this season against the Jazz, with one victory in Dallas and one in Salt Lake City. Dallas has taken seven straight in the series and eight straight at home.
