Suns tip off with T-wolves

Mar 11, 2015 - 2:01 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Phoenix Suns will try to put the brakes on a two- game losing streak Wednesday when they play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Suns closed their recent road trip with a 10-point loss to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, then opened their homestand with a 98-80 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Monday.

Eric Bledsoe ended with 19 points for the Suns, who have lost two straight at home. T.J. Warren scored 11 points and Alex Len contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Phoenix guard Brandon Knight recorded 13 points before leaving in the second quarter with a sprained left ankle. He was unable to put any weight on the leg and was helped off the court by the Suns' training staff. Knight is out for Wednesday's game.

Golden State led by as many as 11 in the second, but the Suns scored the final nine points of the quarter to make it 46-46. Ahead 53-52, the Warriors created some distance with a 23-5 run. Steph Curry scored 10 points during the burst that Klay Thompson capped with a 3-pointer for a 76-57 edge with 1:41 left in the third.

"We made that run there at the end of the second quarter because guys were cutting and moving," Phoenix head coach Jeff Hornacek said. "Then, I don't know if they got tired or something, but we stood around and again did the one-on-one stuff."

The Warriors shot 41.9 percent from 3-point range.

The Suns also have the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks and New Orleans Pelicans on this stay.

The Timberwolves started their brutal four-game road trip with an 89-76 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. They will visit the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs over the weekend.

Minnesota has dropped five of its last six, and its 76 points on Monday represented the second-lowest offensive output of the season.

Adreian Payne paced the Timberwolves with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Nikola Pekovic supplied 12 points and 10 rebounds in defeat. Andrew Wiggins chipped in 11 and Kevin Martin added 10.

Ricky Rubio handed out 12 assists and Gorgui Dieng grabbed 10 boards off the bench.

"Adreian was the one guy who played physical," Minnesota head coach Flip Saunders said. "We just didn't play with a lot of energy tonight."

LA led by 12 at the start of the final quarter, then Hedo Turkoglu trey opened an 11-0 Los Angeles run that made it an 87-66 game. The Timberwolves never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

The Suns won two of three meetings this season and three of four in the series. The Timberwolves have taken two of the last three encounters in Phoenix.
