Pistons make a stop in south Philly
Mar 18, 2015 - 2:07 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Pistons snapped a 10-game losing streak last time out and will try to continue the momentum Wednesday when they visit the Wells Fargo Center to take on the Philadelphia 76ers.The Pistons knocked off the Memphis Grizzlies to halt the slide Tuesday night, winning, 105-95. Detroit trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half, but outscored the Grizzlies 66-39 over the final 24 minutes to overcome the deficit.
"We just attacked the basket in the second half, and we played a lot harder on defense," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said.
Reggie Jackson enjoyed his best game as a Pistons player with 23 points and a career-high 20 assists. Andre Drummond posted 16 points and 16 rebounds and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope supplied a game-high 24 points for the Pistons.
A Jeff Green 3-pointer with 5:09 left staked Memphis to a 90-88 edge before the Pistons pulled away with a 15-2 run. Jackson netted seven points during the surge, which was capped when a Tayshaun Prince jumper gave Detroit a 101-92 advantage with 1:54 remaining.
The Grizzlies never got within eight the rest of the way.
The Pistons have still lost seven in a row on the road.
Philly has dropped two straight, but is 2-2 in its last four at home.
The 76ers lost to the Brooklyn Nets at home on Saturday, then fell in Boston to the red-hot Celtics, 108-89, on Monday.
Seven Celtics scored in double figures as Boston started fast to get the easy win.
The Celtics made two-thirds of their field goal attempts (16-of-24) in the opening quarter and led by as many as 22. Tyler Zeller and Avery Bradley both scored 10 points in the frame, which ended with the hosts holding a healthy 38-18 lead.
"The game was determined in the first period," Sixers head coach Brett Brown said. "They got whatever they wanted offensively."
Despite slowing down in the second, Boston went ahead by a game-high 27 points. Boston led 89-68 entering the fourth and stayed comfortably ahead the rest of the way.
Nerlens Noel led the Sixers with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ish Smith added 16, followed by 13 from Hollis Thompson. Isaiah Canaan chipped in 11 and Luc Mbah a Moute managed 10.
