Texas Tussle: Spurs battle Mavs in Big D
Mar 24, 2015 - 2:39 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - A Lone Star State battle is on tap Tuesday between the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center. The Spurs have won three in a row and 10 of their last 12 games, including Sunday's 114-95 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
Tiago Splitter scored 23 points and Kawhi Leonard filled the box score with 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Boris Diaw scored 17 points off the bench and Danny Green added 15 in the rout.
"It was one of those games where we played very well," said Spurs guard Tony Parker, who scored eight points and handed out five assists. "The ball movement was great."
San Antonio is sixth in the Western Conference and 18-17 on the road. It will play the next three games at home versus Oklahoma City, Dallas and Memphis.
The Mavericks have lost two in row after winning three straight and four of their previous five games.
In Sunday's 98-92 setback to the Phoenix Suns, Chandler Parsons scored 19 points, Amare Stoudemire added 16 off the bench and Rajon Rondo posted 12 points and six assists for the Mavs.
Monta Ellis was 4-of-22 from the field, including six straight misses down the stretch, and finished with 11 points.
"Hey, he had a bad shooting night," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "That's the way it goes. But if we show up in the first half and play like we're capable, we're not talking about a bad shooting night. We're probably winning the game and doing what we're supposed to do.
"This is not a Monta Ellis problem. This is a Dallas Mavericks hard-play problem. We don't play hard all the time, that's the problem."
Dallas, which sits seventh in the West standings, is 24-12 at home and will start a three-game road trip Friday against San Antonio, Indiana and Oklahoma City.
The Mavericks and Spurs have split two meetings this season.
