Kings hold off Timberwolves
Apr 8, 2015 - 6:07 AM Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Rudy Gay had 33 points, Omri Casspi added 31 and the Sacramento Kings defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-111 on Tuesday night.Derrick Williams posted 18 innings and eight rebounds for the Kings, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
"I enjoyed the offense a lot after the first quarter," Kings coach George Karl said.
Sim Bhullar made his NBA debut, becoming the first player of Indian descent to play in the NBA. He only logged 16 seconds of action.
Kevin Martin tallied 37 points and eight assists to lead Minnesota, which has dropped seven straight games.
"That's one thing about this team, we are always going to play hard," Martin said.
The Timberwolves led 31-23 following a quarter of play, but the Kings outscored them 67-43 over the next two frames.
Sacramento began the second on an 11-2 run to go in front. Gay put in seven of the first nine points during the surge, which was capped on a Jason Thompson short jumper for a 34-33 Kings edge at the 8:12 mark.
The Kings were up 54-49 at the break and used a 16-6 third quarter swing to go even further in front. Casspi's driving layup finished off the burst and increased their cushion to 78-62.
Sacramento led 90-74 heading into the fourth, where Minnesota never got within less than five.
Game Notes
Sacramento center DeMarcus Cousins sat out with a sore right foot ... Ray McCallum supplied 13 points and nine boards for the Kings, while Andrew Wiggins provided 26 points and eight rebounds for Minnesota.
