Hawks roll into Brooklyn

Apr 8, 2015 - 2:31 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Brooklyn Nets look to stay on the postseason path when they resume a three-game homestand Wednesday versus the Atlanta Hawks.

The Nets are seventh in the Eastern Conference and sit one game ahead of Boston, 1 1/2 games in front of Miami and two games clear of Indiana.

Brooklyn opened the residency with Monday's 106-96 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, as Brook Lopez recorded 32 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Deron Williams added 24 points and handed out 10 assists for the Nets, who got 20 points from Thaddeus Young and made 45 percent from the field.

"We got back on track, kept focused. Did a good job, we're continuing to get better every game," Lopez said.

Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 36 points and LaMarcus Aldridge did not play due to rest.

The Nets, who have won 11 of their last 14 games, are 17-20 at home and will host Washington on Friday.

Atlanta is the top seed in the East and has won two straight and five of the last seven games, including Tuesday's 96-69 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

DeMarre Carroll, Jeff Teague and Mike Muscala scored 16 points apiece, while Al Horford added 14 for the Hawks, who made 49 percent of their shots and had a 54-37 rebounding advantage.

The Hawks recorded their 58th win of the season, a franchise record. They had 57 wins in both the 1993-94 and 1986-87 seasons.

"I don't think we were thinking about the franchise record," Carroll said. "We were just trying to turn it up and get a sense of urgency. The playoffs are right around the corner, and we want to have a good rhythm going into it."

Atlanta is 24-14 on the road and will host Charlotte on Friday.

Hawks All-Star forward Paul Millsap did not play against the Suns because of a bruised right shoulder and is day-to-day. He is averaging 16.8 points and 7.8 rebounds this season.

In off the court news, Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha were reportedly arrested early Wednesday morning for trying to prevent police from setting up a crime scene. Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland was stabbed and his wife slashed by a knife in a New York City nightclub, according to the New York Daily News.

A fracas reportedly broke out after an argument erupted outside 1 OAK club on West 17th Street shortly before 4 a.m.

The man who was arrested, Shezoy Bleary, 22, pulled out a knife and stabbed Copeland in the abdomen and slashed 28-year-old Katrine Saltara, described by investigators as Copeland's wife, in the arm and leg, sources told the paper.

Atlanta is 3-0 against Brooklyn this season and has won the last four matchups between the teams. The Hawks are 11-4 in the last 15 games in this series.
