Bucks romp past Raptors
Nov 7, 2007 - 4:55 AM By David Cotey PA SportsTicker Contributing WriterMILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Perhaps the Milwaukee Bucks would prefer if coach Larry Krystkowiak's wife went into labor more often.
Forward Desmond Mason made all 10 of his shots and finished with a season-high 21 points as the Bucks enjoyed their best game of the season, a 112-85 rout of the Toronto Raptors at the Bradley Center on Tuesday.
With Krystkowiak at the hospital with his wife Jan, who delivered twin girls, the Bucks cruised to the easy victory for Tony Brown, a 10-year coaching veteran, who filled in as Krystkowiak's replacement.
"He got twins and a 30-point win," Bucks guard Mo Williams said of Krystkowiak. "What more could he ask for?"
Michael Redd added 17 points, one of six Bucks in double figures as Milwaukee dished out a season-high 31 assists and remained perfect at home this season.
"We did a good job of being unselfish," Redd said. "The 31 assists stands out more than anything."
Toronto got 20 points from Juan Dixon and 16 from Kris Humphries off the bench, but the Raptors played much of the first half without starters Chris Bosh and Jason Kapono, who got into early foul trouble and watched as Milwaukee built a huge first-half lead.
"It's hard to find many guys who did what they were supposed to do," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "The fortunate thing is we have another game tomorrow, but the unfortunate thing is that we don't have a chance to practice to try to clean things up."
The Bucks led by as many as 21 points in the second quarter, 52-31, following a 31-15 run that began with 4:23 remaining in the first quarter. During the run, nine different Bucks scored led by Redd's nine points.
"We figured at some point, the way this team shoots the ball, we were going to break out," Brown said. "On both ends of the floor, we played a complete game."
Mason scored 11 of his 17 first-half points in the first quarter and made all eight of his shots before intermission.
"Tonight the rim was big for me, and it was my night," Mason said. "I think my teammates did a really good job of giving me the ball in places where I could operate in space. When I felt like I was doubled, I kicked it out and guys were knocking down shots all over the place.
Raptors guard T.J. Ford, a former Milwaukee first-round pick, struggled against his former team after averaging 14.3 points and 9.8 assists against the Bucks last season. Ford finished with eight points on 3-of-10 shooting.
Bosh, who came into the contest averaging 16.7 points, picked up his third foul early in the third quarter and finished with just one point and two rebounds in 16 minutes. He did not play in the fourth quarter.
"I was trying to get into it," Bosh said. "I got two quick fouls and that kind of sent me into a downfall."
The Raptors became the first team in NBA history to make a 3-pointer in 700 consecutive games.
