Delfino, Raptors blast Bulls on the road
Nov 11, 2007 - 5:07 AM By Bruce Levine PA SportsTicker Contributing WriterCHICAGO (Ticker) - Carlos Delfino scored 16 points to lead six players in double figures as the Toronto Raptors rolled to a 101-71 victory over the struggling Chicago Bulls on Saturday night.
Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani both netted 14 points and T.J. Ford dished out 14 assists for the Raptors, who had lost 15 of their previous 17 meetings in the series.
"We did some good things," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "Everything starts with defense. We forced turnovers and made some shots. When you get a lead guys shoot with more confidence."
The Raptors held a 30-26 edge with two minutes to play in the first half before breaking the game open with an 11-4 surge to grab a 41-30 advantage at halftime.
Toronto started the third quarter just like it ended the first half, opening with an impressive 14-1 run to push the advantage to 55-31 with 8:58 left and never looked back. Anthony Parker nailed two 3-pointers during the stretch.
"We wanted to stay aggressive and not let them back in the game," Toronto forward Jamario Moon said. "Our tendency has been to get big leads and let other teams back in the game. We didn't want to let that happen again."
That run broke Chicago's back as Toronto went on to outscore the Bulls, 36-13, en route to creating a 77-43 bulge heading to the fourth.
"I thought we played a very good first half on defense," Bulls forward Loul Deng said. "We are going to have to find someway to get our offense functioning before our next game."
Andres Nocioni led the way for Chicago with 20 points off the bench.
The setback was disappointing for coach Scott Skiles and the Bulls, who picked up their lone win of the season against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday.
With the contest out of hand, Skiles benched all of his starters for the remainder of the night with just 9:35 left in the third period.
"It wasn't a punishment for the starters," Skiles said. "I was looking for something like a hot player off the bench to get us back in the game. Unfortunately we didn't find one."
