Nuggets, Lakers face off in battle of league's top scorers

Dec 5, 2007 - 2:58 PM LA Lakers (10-8) at Denver (11-7) 9:00 pm EST

DENVER (Ticker) -- Two of the NBA's top scorers face off on Wednesday when the Denver Nuggets host the Los Angeles Lakers.

Carmelo Anthony has been scoring at will this season, ranking in the top five in the league, scoring 25.3 points per game. Despite Anthony's offensive prowess the Nuggets have had a hard time finding consistency, but have won back-to-back games since a 127-99 loss to the Lakers on November 29.

During their last game against the Miami Heat on Sunday, Anthony scored 30 points as the Nuggets held their opposition to just 37.5 percent shooting and forced 16 turnovers en route to a 115-89 victory.

The Lakers, meanwhile, have gotten back on track due in part to Kobe Bryant, who ranks second in scoring with 27.2 points per game.

Bryant has been battling the stomach flu, but still scored 20 points in Los Angeles' 116-95 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak and gave the Lakers just their third win in eight games.
