Suddenly slumping Celtics host red-hot Blazers

Jan 16, 2008 - 2:17 PM Portland (23-14) at Boston (30-6) 7:30 pm EST

BOSTON (Ticker) -- The suddenly slumping Boston Celtics look to avoid their third straight loss when they host the red-hot Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

The Celtics have lost back-to-back games - both to the Washington Wizards - for the first time all season and have lost three of four overall.

On Monday, the Celtics squandered a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in an 88-83 loss to the Wizards.

However, the Celtics have gone 10-0 against the Western Conference this season and have won the last four meetings from the Blazers.

But Portland comes in as one of the hottest teams in the league, winning 18 of its past 20 contests.

The Blazers bounced back from a double-overtime loss to Toronto on Sunday with an easy 99-73 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Monday.

Portland has five players averaging in double figures, led by Brandon Roy's 19.0 points per game. Roy has shot 19-of-35 from the field, including 6-of-8 from the arc for 49 points in his past two games.

The Blazers are playing their third game of a season-long seven-game road trip.
