Red-Hot Pistons seek season sweep of Hawks
Feb 12, 2008 - 2:53 PM Detroit (37-13) at Atlanta (21-26) 7:00 pm ESTATLANTA (Ticker) - The Detroit Pistons will look to complete their first season-series sweep of the Atlanta Hawks since the 2000-01 campaign on Tuesday.
The Pistons already have three wins already under their belt over Atlanta this season. Detroit has only swept the series eight times since the Hawks relocated from St. Louis in 1968.
In the last matchup, All-Star Chauncey Billups poured in 23 points to lead three others in double figures to propel Detroit to a 91-81 victory on December 14 at home.
The Pistons enter as perhaps the hottest teams in the league after posting their eighth consecutive win during Sunday's 113-87 thrashing of the Charlotte Bobcats.
Also on Sunday, Detroit forward Rasheed Wallace was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team as a replacement for Boston's Kevin Garnett, who will sit out due to a strained abdominal.
The Central-Division leading Pistons own of the best road records in the NBA at 17-9.
Atlanta is coming off back-to-back losses following its 108-89 setback to the Houston Rockets on Saturday.
"Hopefully, we get a little fire after a loss like this," Hawks forward Josh Childress said. "They kicked our butts from top to bottom."
Atlanta All-Star Joe Johnson might find it hard to score against Detroit's tough-nose defense as he's averaging 14.2 points in 18 career meetings in the series.
