Pistons visit Timberwolves hoping to get some rest before playoffs

Apr 1, 2008 - 1:54 PM Detroit (52-21) at Minnesota (19-53) 8:00 pm EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Detroit Pistons should have plenty of time to recharge their batteries.

The Central Division champion Pistons continue their final stretch before the postseason when they visit the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.

Detroit (52-21) currently owns second place in the Eastern Conference and has a comfortable 5 1/2 game lead over the third place Orlando Magic (47-27).

The Pistons trail the Boston Celtics by six games for the top spot in the East and will likely use the remainder of the season to rest its starters in preparation for the playoffs, especially with their next four games coming against teams with losing records.

Richard Hamilton scored 14 points to lead five players in double figures as Detroit registered its second consecutive win with an 85-71 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday.

The Timberwolves snapped a two-game slide with a surprising 110-103 victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday. Al Jefferson had 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Minnesota.

Jefferson, who leads the team with 21 points and 11 rebounds per game, has been highly effective this season despite Minnesota's dismal 19-53 record.
