Mavericks try to reach .500 for first time this season
Nov 17, 2006 - 2:36 PM Dallas (3-4) at Memphis (1-6) 8:00 pm ESTMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - After a surprisingly slow start, the Dallas Mavericks try to reach the .500 mark for the first time this season when they meet the Memphis Grizzlies in the opener of a home-and-home series Friday.
The Mavericks appeared to still be suffering from the effects of their NBA Finals loss to the Miami Heat with an unexpected 0-4 start to the 2006-07 campaign. Dallas had lost the final four games against the Heat after winning the first two contests.
But with a 111-99 victory over Chicago on Tuesday, Dallas has put together three wins in a row. Dirk Nowitzki scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Jerry Stackhouse added 21 points for the Mavericks, who made all 24 free-throw attempts.
Jason Terry had 17 points and Erick Dampier collected 14 and 13 boards for Dallas, which has won seven straight over Memphis.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies have dropped five contests in a row, including a 115-111 setback to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. Chucky Atkins, who made 10-of-11 shots, netted 27 points and Damon Stoudamire added 19 for Memphis.
This set will conclude in Dallas on Saturday.
