Dampier helps Mavericks continue dominance of Grizzlies

Nov 18, 2006 - 3:57 AM MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Erick Dampier's second consecutive double-double was just what the doctor ordered for the Dallas Mavericks.

Dampier scored 22 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds, Dirk Nowitzki added 26 and 10 and Jerry Stackhouse 19 as the Mavericks continued their recent dominance over the Memphis Grizzlies with a 115-103 victory.

In their first meeting since Dallas swept Memphis in last spring's playoff series, the Mavericks raised their all-time record here to 19-3 and won their fourth consecutive game overall, while extending the Grizzlies' losing streak to six.

Three days after scoring 14 points and collecting 13 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls, Dampier made 8-of 11 shots for his highest-scoring contest since joining the Mavericks in 2004.

After Greg Buckner made a three-point play to give Dallas a 75-73 lead with 3:10 left in the third quarter, Hakim Warrick sparked Memphis with eight points in an 11-2 run - including two dunks early in the fourth - for an 84-77 bulge.

However, Dallas came back with its own 11-2 spurt, highlighted by five points from Devin Harris, four from Dampier and baskets by Jerry Stackhouse and Devean George as the Mavericks went in front, 90-86, with 6:45 left.

A five-time All-Star, Nowitzki made his presence felt down the stretch for the Mavericks with a 3-pointer, a three-point play and a pair of jumpers in a 12-3 spurt, which widened the margin to 104-93 with 1:36 remaining.

Jason Terry scored 15 points and Harris added 13 for the Mavericks, who committed just seven turnovers and reached the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Warrick scored a career-high 26 points, Stomile Swift had 21 and Mike Miller 16 for the Grizzlies, who lost despite shooting nearly 51 percent (38-of-75) from the floor.
