Warrick, Grizzlies get rare win vs. Nuggets on the road

Nov 29, 2006 - 4:41 AM DENVER (Ticker) -- Despite another stellar performance by Carmelo Anthony, Hakim Warrick and the Memphis Grizzlies finally won in the Mile High City.

Warrick scored 25 points and Lawrence Roberts added six of his 16 during a decisive fourth-quarter run as the Grizzlies collected their first road win over the Denver Nuggets in nine years, 108-96.

Chucky Atkins scored 22 points for Memphis, which shot 49 percent (45-of-92) from the field and outrebounded the Nuggets, 44-39. The Grizzlies overcame 37 points by Anthony.

Denver had won 17 consecutive home contests against Memphis dating to November 18, 1997, when the Grizzlies were in Vancouver. Memphis came in 2-20 all-time here but snapped the string behind Warrick, who made 12-of-21 shots.

Trailing, 81-80, entering the fourth quarter, Memphis went on a 14-3 spurt fueled by Roberts, who nailed a pair of turnaround jumpers in the lane and tough layup underneath. The 6-9 forward was 8-of-11 from the field.

The Western Conference Player of the Week, Anthony averaged 31.3 points, shot 55 percent (46-of-84) from the floor and collected 5.3 assists in helping Denver extend its winning streak to five games. He stayed hot but did not get much help.

Marcus Camby added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, who shot 49 percent (38-of-78).
