Grizzlies aim for first two-game winning streak vs. Hornets

Dec 6, 2008 - 11:18 AM Memphis (5-14) at New Orleans (10-6), 8:00pm EST

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- The Memphis Grizzlies haven't put together two victories in a row all season.. They will get a chance to do just that this weekend, albeit against an opponent that has recently had their number.

The Grizzlies look to snap a five-game skid against the New Orleans Hornets when they hit the road Saturday.

Memphis ended a seven-game losing streak on Friday, as Rudy Gay scored 25 points and O.J. Mayo added 20 to propel the Grizzlies to a 93-81 triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers. However, they may have to do even more against the Hornets, who swept the season series last season.

The Grizzlies made it close on two occasions, however, taking New Orleans to overtime before falling both times in a pair of two-point losses. Naturally, they had no answer for Chris Paul, who averaged 28.3 points and 11.8 assists against them in four meetings last campaign while shooting 52 percent from the field.

The Hornets are coming off a 104-91 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, as Paul collected 24 points and 15 assists to lead the way.

The Grizzlies, whose last win over the Hornets came on March 20, 2007, are the fourth-lowest scoring team in the league, putting up just 93.5 points per contest. While Gay and Mayo combine to record more than 41 points per game, the team has gotten little offensive production elsewhere.
