76ers look to stop skid vs. Wizards

Dec 13, 2008 - 11:27 AM Washington (4-16) at Philadelphia (9-13) 7:30 p.m. EST

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The struggling Philadelphia 76ers have a chance to snap out of their funk against the bottom- feeder of the Eastern Conference on Saturday.

Philadelphia will look to halt a three-game losing streak when it hosts the Washington Wizards.

A season full of high hopes has gotten off to an unexpected start for the 76ers, who have lost eight of 10 and find themselves in last place in the Atlantic Division.

The offseason acquisition of Elton Brand has yet to pay dividends as the 10-year veteran is averaging career-lows of 16.1 points a game and 44 percent shooting from the field.

After leaving a game December 3 with a strained right hamstring and missing the next two, Brand managed just 17 points while shooting 7-of-24 from the field in back-to-back losses to Cleveland this week.

Andre Iguodala has shown signs of breaking out of an early season slump, averaging 20.2 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field in six games this month.

Washington was unable to pull off consecutive upsets, following up a victory over the Detroit Pistons with a 122-88 thumping at the hands of the Boston Celtics on Thursday.

Caron Butler scored 19 points while Juan Dixon and Antawn Jamison added 17 apiece, but the Wizards allowed the Celtics to shoot 56 percent from the field in tying a season-worst for points allowed.
