After record night, Anthony, Nuggets host Warriors
Dec 13, 2008 - 11:25 AM Golden State (7-16) at Denver (15-7) 9:00 p.m. ESTDENVER (Ticker) -- Carmelo Anthony's record-setting night helped the Denver Nuggets move into second place in the Western Conference.
Anthony looks to duplicate that performance when the Nuggets host the Golden State Warriors on Saturday.
The 24-year-old All-Star, Anthony scored 33 of his 45 points in the third quarter of Wednesday's 116-105 victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves, setting a franchise mark and tying George Gervin for the NBA record. David Thompson previously held the Nuggets' record with 32 points.
"I can't put it into words," Anthony said. "It was a good night. Records are made to be broken, and no disrespect to David, but it was my turn tonight."
Anthony was 12-of-15 from the field in the third, scoring on drives and 3-pointers while adding five rebounds as the Nuggets moved to within four games of the Los Angeles Lakers (19-3) for the top spot in the West.
Winners of five of its last six, Denver hopes to continue its success against the Warriors, who had a two-game win streak snapped during a 119-108 loss to the Houston Rockets on Friday.
Golden State had dropped nine straight games before forging victories against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Milwaukee Bucks earlier this week.
Andris Biedrins scored 18 points and snagged 12 rebounds while C.J. Watson added 17 points as the Warriors failed to earn their first three-game win streak of the season.
