Thunder look to snap out of December futility

Dec 14, 2008 - 7:27 AM Oklahoma City (2-22) at San Antonio (14-8), 7:00pm EST

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- At the least, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been making progress. It may not have translated into any more wins, but the league's basement-dweller has at least been making things interesting lately.

The Thunder, riding another lengthy losing streak and in search of just their third victory, will look to get over the hump for the first time this month as they visit the surging San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

Since picking up win No. 2 on November 29, the Thunder have dropped six in a row - but have kept their deficits to 10 points or fewer each time. On Saturday, they made the Dallas Mavericks work for it before eventually falling, 103-99.

Oklahoma City led by as many as nine in the third quarter but eventually succumbed to a stellar performance from All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, who poured in 46 points.

For the Spurs, things have been going in the exact opposite direction. The perennial Western Conference power has won five straight and is finally starting to round into shape after suffering through early injuries. Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker have returned from ankle injuries that sidelined them earlier this season.

Tim Duncan has carried the team, averaging 21.1 points and 10.7 rebounds while recording six double-doubles in a row.
