Hurtin' Pacers pain Warriors
Dec 18, 2008 - 2:56 AM INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Shorthanded, the Indiana Pacers would not be denied on Wednesday.Despite missing starters Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy and T.J. Ford, the Pacers outlasted the Golden State Warriors, 127-120.
Danny Granger led the way with 41 points, including 17-of-17 from the foul line. Jarrett Jack added 24, stepping in for Ford (groin strain), and Marquis Daniels scored 23 before leaving with a sore neck in the second half.
Indiana started fast, jumping to a 40-29 lead after a quarter and closed strong, posting a 32-27 edge in the final quarter to stave off the Warriors.
The Warriors took a 109-108 lead on Stephen Jackson's layup with 4:18 left, but Indiana countered with two free throws by Jack and a basket by Granger to take the lead for good.
Granger sealed the win with four free throws in the final 13 seconds.
Granger is 42-of-42 from the foul line in his last four games. He had 42 points against the Detroit Pistons on Friday and was dominant in this game, hitting 11-of-27 from the field while also grabbing 11 rebounds.
Jack was pressed into service with Ford unable to go. Head coach Jim O'Brien was hoping to get 40 minutes out of the guard from Georgia Tech and Jack came close, playing 38 and hitting 7-of-14 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the line.
Overall, Indiana hit 27-of-29 free throws compared to Golden State's 18-of-23 from the line.
The Warriors love to run and gun but weren't able to wear down their shorthanded opponents.
Golden State was led by Jamal Crawford with 29 points. Marco Belinelli added 21 points, while former Pacer Jackson added 20.
