Mavericks look to stay on track vs. reeling Grizzlies

Dec 23, 2008 - 11:16 AM Memphis (9-17) at Dallas (15-11), 8:30pm EST

DALLAS (Ticker) -- The last time the Dallas Mavericks faced the Memphis Grizzlies seemed to be a turning point in their season. Up until that night - just over a month ago - the Mavs hadn't won a single game at home.

They remedied that situation with a 91-76 triumph, part of a five-game winning streak that may have salvaged their season. On Tuesday, they will host the Grizzlies again as they continue their push back into the thick of things.

Dallas recovered nicely from its 2-7 start, rattling off 10 wins in 12 games. Since then, however, the Mavericks have split their last four contests and are once again looking to establish more consistency.

They face a desperate Memphis club that has lost three straight and saw its upset bid Monday slip through their fingers in the final minutes. The Grizzlies seemed on the verge of upending the Los Angeles Lakers before collapsing down the stretch, yielding a 17-3 Los Angeles run en route to a 105-96 defeat.

As they get set to take on the Mavericks for the second time, rising stars O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay are looking to make amends from the last time around. The two combined to shoot just 13-of-42 for 33 points in a losing cause.
