Timberwolves face Magic looking for second straight win
Dec 27, 2008 - 11:32 AM Orlando (23-6) at Minnesota (5-23), 8:00pm ESTMINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- It's one win and counting for the Minnesota Timberwolves. And while that may not sound like much, for a group that was struggling as much as the T-Wolves, one counts for a lot.
Minnesota will try to make it two in a row on Saturday as it hosts the surging Orlando Magic.
The T-Wolves snapped a 13-game skid on Friday - and gave new head coach Kevin McHale his first win since taking over at the helm nine game ago - with a 120-107 victory over the reeling New York Knicks. It was not only their first win since November 28, but it was their second-biggest offensive output of the entire campaign.
Two reserves came off the bench to lead the way, as Rashad McCants poured in 23 points and Sebastian Telfair added 20, while Al Jefferson was his typical self with 21 and 15 boards.
However, this test will be much tougher than the Knicks and their Swiss-cheese defense. The T-Wolves will have to face a Magic squad that has won six straight and 10 of 11. Dwight Howard leads the NBA in rebounding (13.9) and blocks (3.6) and the Magic yield just 93.7 points per contest - sixth-fewest in the league.
In a Christmas Day matinee, they held the New Orleans Hornets to 68 points in a blowout victory.
