Thunder on the road to historic futility

Dec 31, 2008 - 11:14 AM Golden State (10-23) at Oklahoma City (3-29), 8:00 p.m. EST

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- At this rate, the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers could be getting off the hook.

The Oklahoma City Thunder hope to avoid falling further into futility when they host the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.

Oklahoma City is currently on a five-game losing streak and is coming off a 110-102 setback to Phoenix on Monday. Rookie Russell Westbrook scored a season-high 31 points in the loss.

Kevin Durant, who had scored 25 or more points in seven straight games, netted just 18 on 5-of-17 shooting in the loss.

Having dropped 29 of 32 games thus far this season, the Thunder are on pace to challenge those infamous Sixers, who went 9-73 during the 1972-73 campaign.

Golden State is coming off a 117-111 victory over Toronto on Monday, its second win in three games.

Stephen Jackson scored 30 points and Marco Belinelli had 23 and six assists in the win for the Warriors, who have lost three straight and six of seven on the road.
