Blazers end homestand against Hornets

Jan 2, 2009 - 11:11 AM New Orleans (19-9) at Portland (20-12), 10:00 p.m. EST

PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- The Portland Trail Blazers proved they can beat the defending champions without their best player. Of course, they're hoping he'll be back on the court soon.

Portland wraps up its five-game homestand on Friday when it hosts the New Orleans Hornets.

Without Brandon Roy, who missed the game with a hamstring injury, Portland defeated the Boston Celtics, 91-86, on Tuesday.

Steve Blake scored 21 points and LaMarcus Aldridge had 14 of his 20 in the second half for the Blazers, who are 3-1 on their current homestand.

Roy leads the team in scoring at 23 points per game. He told the Oregonian on Wednesday that he is probable for Friday's contest.

The Hornets, who are opening a four-game road trip, have won three straight contests, including Tuesday's 97-85 victory over Washington.

Chris Paul tied a franchise record with his seventh career triple-double - and third this season - with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists.

The teams split the first two meetings earlier this season.
