Brown returns to Detroit as Bobcats visit Pistons

Jan 13, 2009 - 2:35 PM Charlotte (14-24) at Detroit (22-13) 7:30 p.m. EST

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- The Palace at Auburn Hills will greet a familiar guest on Tuesday night. Former head coach Larry Brown brings his latest team to town as he returns to Detroit for just the second time since he was bought out in 2005.

Brown's Charlotte Bobcats conclude their four-game road trip as they visit the Pistons in what is sure to be an emotional reunion - in more ways than one.

Brown led the Pistons to an NBA championship in 2003-04, but had a falling-out with management after the following campaign and left town. He took the helm with the New York Knicks, but had an unsuccessful one-year stint with the club. During his one appearance back in Detroit, his Knicks were handed a 106-98 defeat, as one of Brown's former pupils, Richard Hamilton, went for 40 points.

However, Hamilton may not be available for another go-round against his ex-coach. He has been nursing a strained groin that has sidelined him for the last eight games.

Instead, Brown will be treated to a heavy dose of another of his former players - Allen Iverson, with whom he spent six contentious seasons in Philadelphia. The four-time scoring champion was acquired by Detroit at the beginning of the season and, despite some growing pains between him and the Pistons' system, has helped them win eight of their last 10 games.

In a December meeting with the Bobcats in Charlotte, Iverson scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting to help lead Detroit to a 90-86 victory.
