After record performance, Magic visit Lakers

Jan 16, 2009 - 11:36 AM Orlando (31-8) at LA Lakers (31-7) 10:30 p.m. EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic probably wish they could carry over some of the 3-pointers from their last game into a meeting with the highest-scoring team in the NBA.

After setting a league record, the Magic go for their sixth straight win on Friday when they continue a four-game road trip against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Orlando hit an NBA record 23 3-pointers on Tuesday en route to a 139-107 romp over the Sacramento Kings.

The Magic had nine players connect from long range, led by Jameer Nelson, who drained 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. Overall, Orlando was 23-of-37 from long range (62 percent) and 49-of-81 overall (60.5 percent).

The record-breaker was hit by Jeremy Richardson in the fourth quarter, surpassing the previous mark set by the Toronto Raptors in March of 2005.

Orlando hopes for a repeat performance against the Lakers, who rank first in the league, averaging 107 points per game but had a four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday.

Kobe Bryant, the reigning MVP, gave Los Angeles a 111-109 lead with 12 seconds left after draining a 3-pointer from the wing over San Antonio Spurs guard Roger Mason.

After the Spurs called a timeout, Matt Bonner had trouble inbounding the ball, but found Mason in the corner. He pump-faked, then hit a tough shot as he was fouled by Derek Fisher.

Mason made the ensuing free throw and the Spurs held on for a 112-111 victory over the Lakers.
