Spurs, Pacers put contrasting styles on display

Jan 20, 2009 - 1:50 PM Indiana (15-26) at San Antonio (27-13) 8:30 p.m. EST

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs are perennial championship contenders because of their defensive intensity. The Indiana Pacers aren't.

The Spurs will look to lock down the Pacers and grab a third straight win when the teams meet on Tuesday.

After allowing over 100 points in three straight games for the first time in years last week, San Antonio got back to its suffocating trademark against the Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Bobcats, allowing an average of 85 points in back-to-back road wins.

Against the Bobcats on Monday, Tim Duncan sealed the 86-84 win with a blocked shot and lead the squad with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Pacers are in last place in the Central Division mainly because they allow the most points in the Eastern Conference at 106.9 points per game. They have surrendered at least 100 points in each of the last 14 games.

Indiana dropped a 103-100 decision to the New Orleans Hornets on Monday despite 30 points from Danny Granger and 17 from Troy Murphy.

Granger has been the bright spot for the Pacers all season, ranking fourth in the NBA in scoring at 26.3 points per game and chipping in 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
