Surging Timberwolves aim for third straight win

Jan 20, 2009 - 1:52 PM Minnesota (13-26) at Utah (24-17) 9:00 p.m. EST

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- After posting four wins in their first 27 games, the Minnesota Timberwolves have finally hit their stride.

The Timberwolves will be looking to post their third straight win when they visit the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.

Minnesota has won seven of its last eight games and nine of its last 12, including a 94-86 triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday.

Al Jefferson dominated the paint in the win, collecting 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Randy Foye did the job on the perimeter with 17 points.

During their successful stretch, however, the Timberwolves have only gotten the better of one team with a winning record, overcoming the Phoenix Suns, 105-103, on Friday.

The Jazz may have a winning record, but they have not been the strongest team of late, dropping two of three.

Utah lost, 115-108, to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday and has allowed 113 points or more in three of its last four games. With forward Carlos Boozer still out with a knee injury, the Jazz got torched by Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki for 39 points on 16-of-20 shooting.

Utah took the first meeting between the teams, 99-96, at Minnesota on December 9.
