Nowitzki powering Mavericks resurgence

Jan 21, 2009 - 11:24 AM Dallas (24-17) at Milwaukee (20-24) 8:00 p.m. EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Dirk Nowitzki has almost single-handedly helped the Dallas Mavericks bounce back from a four-game losing streak.

Nowitzki and the Mavericks go for their third straight win on Wednesday when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks.

The 2006-07 NBA MVP, Nowitzki had 24 points on Monday, making only 7-of-23 shots from the field, but drilled a fadeaway 20-footer at the buzzer, lifting Dallas to a 95-93 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.

That performance came two days after the 7-foot German poured in 39 points on 16-of-20 shooting and added eight rebounds, pacing the Mavericks to a 115-108 victory against the Utah Jazz.

Nowitzki looks to continue his hot play against the Bucks, who have dropped back-to-back games and three of their last four overall, including a 102-85 decision to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday.

Richard Jefferson and Charlie Villanueva scored 23 points apiece but without center Andrew Bogut, who missed his third straight game due to back spasms, Milwaukee was outrebounded 58-30 by the Blazers.
