Hamilton looks to further embrace new roll for Pistons

Jan 23, 2009 - 11:22 AM Dallas (24-18) at Detroit (24-17), 7:00 p.m. EST

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Richard Hamilton changed his role, but the Detroit Pistons did not stray from their winning ways.

Hamilton looks to provide a bigger impact off the bench as the Pistons aim for their third straight victory when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

In Wednesday's 95-76 win over the Toronto Raptors, Hamilton came off the bench after starting his first 611 games, including the playoffs, in seven seasons as a member of the Pistons. It was Hamilton's first game as a reserve since February 1, 2002, when he was playing for the Washington Wizards.

However, the three-time All-Star netted just seven points in 21 minutes of action. Nevertheless, Detroit continued to recover from a previous season-high, five-game losing streak.

Dallas is coming off a 133-99 setback to the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday after winning two in a row.

The Mavericks, who are 1-1 on their current four-game road trip, suffered through their worst defensive outing since a 133-126 overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs on December 9.
