Warriors aim to avoid last-second loss

Jan 25, 2009 - 7:13 AM LA Clippers (10-32) at Golden State (13-31) 9:00 p.m. EST

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors probably wish games would last 47 minutes, 59 seconds.

Because they run a full 48 minutes, the Warriors find themselves riding a two-game losing streak.

Golden State looks to avoid yet another heartbreaking loss on Sunday when it hosts the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Warriors have held narrow leads in the closing seconds of their last two games, but have nothing to show for it after enduring a pair of buzzer-beaters.

Jeff Green hit an 18-foot shot at the buzzer to give the Oklahoma City Thunder a one-point win over Golden State on Wednesday and LeBron James drilled a step-back, 19-foot jumper as time expired on Friday, lifting the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 106-105 victory.

Despite Friday's setback, captain Stephen Jackson, who scored 24 points and drained an 18-foot jumper in James' face with 6.4 seconds left, was encouraged with the team's effort in Monta Ellis' first game back.

Ellis scored 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting in 34 minutes in his first game of the season following a team-imposed suspension after he injured himself in a moped accident during the offseason.

Unlike the Warriors, the Clippers managed to avoid a loss in the closing seconds as Kevin Durant's desperation 3-pointer at the horn missed, securing a 107-104 victory for Los Angeles.

Eric Gordon led the way with 41 points, becoming the first rookie in franchise history to eclipse 40 points.
