Struggling Hawks await Knicks

Jan 28, 2009 - 11:28 AM Atlanta (26-18) at New York (19-25) 7:30 p.m. EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Hawks have looked impressive at times this season. Monday was not one of those times.

The Hawks will be looking to bounce back from an embarrassing loss when they face the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

There have been many bad performances in the history of Atlanta's franchise - one of the traditional doormats of the NBA - but this season's incarnation began the campaign strong and has hung around the top four in the Eastern Conference throughout the first half.

But against the Miami Heat, the Hawks slipped back into some old habits, setting a franchise-low with 27 points in the first half en route to a 95-79 setback. They committed 19 turnovers, including five each from the starting backcourt of Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby.

Atlanta was held without a field goal for nearly 13 1/2 minutes during one first-half stretch and managed only seven assists on 26 field goals in the game.

Getting back into the scoring groove should not be a problem against the Knicks, who allow an average of 106 points per game.

New York has won four of five and is coming off a 104-98 win over the Houston Rockets. Nate Robinson scored 19 points off the bench and David Lee collected 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Hawks won the first meeting between the teams, 98-95, on December 5.
