Surprising Timberwolves look to keep rolling

Jan 28, 2009 - 11:27 AM Detroit (24-19) at Minnesota (16-27), 8:00 p.m. EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- After spending most of the first half of the season as one of the league's laughingstocks, the Minnesota Timberwolves are starting to smile.

Minnesota goes for its fourth straight win when it hosts the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

After winning four of their first 27 games, which included a 13-game losing streak, the Timberwolves are an NBA-best 10-2 in the month of January.

Al Jefferson had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Gomes added 22 and eight as Minnesota won its third straight game with a 90-83 triumph at Milwaukee on Monday. It was the sixth straight game that Jefferson topped the 20-point mark.

Detroit has dropped consecutive games and is coming off a 108-105 setback against Houston on Sunday.

Richard Hamilton scored 27 points and Rasheed Wallace added 22 and 11 rebounds in the loss for the Pistons, who shot 56 percent (44-of-78) from the floor.

Minnesota won the first meeting at Detroit, 106-80, on November 23.
