Ellis, Maggette lead Warriors on the road
Jan 28, 2009 - 11:25 AM Golden State (14-31) at Dallas (25-19) 9:00 p.m. ESTDALLAS (Ticker) -- After closing out a season-high, seven-game homestand with a 4-3 record, the Golden State Warriors are poised for greater success with their floor general back in the lineup and a former starter flourishing in a reserve role.
The Warriors go for their second straight win on Wednesday when they open a three-game road trip against the Dallas Mavericks.
In his second game of the campaign after missing the first 42 contests after undergoing left ankle surgery during the offseason and serving a team-imposed suspension, point guard Monta Ellis scored 10 points and added three assists, helping Golden State claim a 107-92 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
Ellis' return has lightened the offensive burden from some players, including Corey Maggette, who has excelled since moving to the bench five games ago.
Maggette led the Warriors with 20 points against the Clippers, hitting 7-of-8 shots from field. The 29-year-old forward has averaged 21.8 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor over his last five games as a reserve.
Golden State needs another big performance from Ellis and Maggette against the Mavericks, who are 13-7 at home this season but have dropped two of their last three games overall.
Dallas hit only 42 percent (32-of-76) from the field, including 6-of-20 (30 percent) from 3-point range, en route to a 124-100 drubbing against the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
