Hawks look to halt skid against struggling Nets

Jan 30, 2009 - 11:15 AM New Jersey (20-26) at Atlanta (26-19), 7:30 p.m. EST

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Hawks have not had much luck against the New Jersey Nets this season. Recently, the Hawks have not had success against anyone.

Atlanta looks to end a three-game losing streak when it hosts New Jersey on Friday.

Losers in eight of their last 12 contests overall, the Hawks have dropped all three of their games to the Nets this season. Vince Carter made a 35-foot buzzer-beater to lift New Jersey to a 93-91 overtime victory on January 2.

Marvin Williams scored 28 points but Atlanta fell to the New York Knicks, 112-104, on Wednesday. Josh Smith added 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks, who are 9-14 on the road but 17-5 at home.

New Jersey has endured its own struggles lately, losing seven of its last eight games - including a 107-106 setback to Toronto on Wednesday.

Vince Carter had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Devin Harris added 25 and 10 assists in the loss. Harris had a chance to win the game but missed an open jumper from just right of the elbow in the game's waning seconds.
