Surging Sixers look to down lowly Wizards

Jan 30, 2009 - 11:15 AM Washington (9-36) at Philadelphia (22-22) 7:00 p.m EST

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia 76ers have not been above .500 in over two months. To get back over the line, they will have to reverse a recent trend.

The 76ers will be looking to earn their 10th win in the last 12 games when they meet the NBA-worst Washington Wizards on Friday.

Philadelphia fell a season-high seven games below .500 (13-20) on January 3 but ripped off a seven-game winning streak to pull back to 20-20. The Sixers' first attempt at moving above .500 ended with a loss to the Dallas Mavericks, which was followed by a win over the Knicks, a loss at Memphis and a win at Houston.

Andre Iguodala keyed the win over the Rockets, capping a comeback from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit with a baseline jumper with 36 seconds left and finishing with 20 points in the 95-93 victory on Wednesday.

Elton Brand had his best game since returning from a 16-game absence, collecting 14 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots in 26 minutes off the bench against Houston.

The Wizards should provide an easy opportunity for Philadelphia to get back on the winning side of the ledger.

Washington owns the worst record in the NBA and is mired in a four-game losing streak, with each of the setbacks coming by at least 13 points. The Wizards suffered a 93-71 loss at Miami on Wednesday, shooting 37 percent and committing 18 turnovers.

The Sixers have taken each of the first two meetings this season.
