Lakers aim to bounce back against surging Timberwolves

Jan 30, 2009 - 11:14 AM LA Lakers (35-9) at Minnesota (16-28) 8:00 p.m. EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers failed to overcome a surging perennial doormat in their last game. A repeat of that contest could be on the horizon.

The Lakers look to bounce back from a marathon loss when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.

Los Angeles (35-9), which owns the best record in the Western Conference, had a four-game win streak snapped on Tuesday, enduring a 117-110 setback to the Charlotte Bobcats in double overtime. Despite failing to eclipse 33 wins in any of the last four seasons, the Bobcats have won five of the last six meetings with the Lakers and six of nine games overall.

The Timberwolves haven't reached 34 wins in the last three campaigns, but could be on the verge of that trend if they continue their recent play.

After starting the season 4-23, Minnesota entered Wednesday's contest against the Detroit Pistons with an NBA-best 10-2 record in January.

However, the Timberwolves three-game win streak came to end against the Pistons as they lost a 98-89 decision after managing only one field goal over the final 5:51, being outscored, 19-5, over that span.
