Surging Knicks begin tough stretch against Lakers

Feb 2, 2009 - 2:48 PM LA Lakers (37-9) at New York (21-25), 7:30 p.m. EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks' winning streak will surely be tested over the next three contests.

Seeking their fourth straight victory, the Knicks kick off a tough stretch of games when they host the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.

New York, which has won six of its last seven, will also face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, and the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics two days later.

The Knicks have won three games on two previous occasions, but have yet to notch a four-game run this season.

Riding a string of offensive outbursts, they are coming off a 122-113 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. New York has reached the 120-point plateau seven times this season after having reached that mark only eight times in the previous five campaigns.

Los Angeles has won two straight and six of seven, but may have lost a key player for an extended period of time.

Center Andrew Bynum suffered a right knee sprain in the first quarter of Saturday's 115-98 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies and will receive an MRI exam Monday.

The Lakers, who are in the midst of a six-game road trip, have scored over 100 points in each of the last 17 games (13-4).
